Mt Difficulty: Bannockburn, Central Otago

Established in 1992, Mt Difficulty owns some of the oldest vineyards and is one of most respected wineries in the Central Otago region of New Zealand's rugged South Island. Situated in Bannockburn, a unique and rare area of extremes, Mt Difficulty has harnessed the once brutal terrain to produce premium wines at the forefront of Central Otago's wine production.

Mt Difficulty Sauvignon Blanc 2008 Ref: MDSB08

Bottle Price: £13.99 (Including VAT at 17.5%)

This wine comes from the Templars' Hill Vineyard in Bannockburn. The fruit was hand harvested in excellent condition. The fruit was reductively handled during processing, gently pressed and racked clean. The wine was fermented cold in stainless steel and remained on gross lees for two months post ferment. These practices were employed to not only retain the maximum varietal fruit character of Sauvignon Blanc but also to develop complexity and palate weight.

Mt Difficulty Pinot Gris 2008 Ref: MDPG08

Bottle Price: £15.99 (Including VAT at 17.5%)

Aromas of white peach and nectarine. The palate displays luscious fruit in the same vein, while the mid palate is full, creamy and well textured. The wine has a rich grapefruit driven finish.

Mt Difficulty Pinot Noir 2008 Ref: MDPN08

Bottle Price: £20.99 (Including VAT at 17.5%)

Perfect weather experienced in December saw excellent fruit set meaning we achieved target crop levels yielding an average of 5 Tonne/Ha. The long, fine, warm autumn meant that we began harvesting our Pinot Noir in late March and continued through to late April. Red fruits of the forest along with blackberry dominate the aroma and these are underpinned by spice and liquorice. The wine has a sweet concentrated front palate which displays these same characters in abundance. The mid palate is fleshy and well textured. The wine finishes with a lovely combination of tannins and fruit.
